thanksgiving is in 2 days. this year i am thankful for the mouse living in my bedroom.  if i had to guess what everyone else in the house is thankful for, i'd say shaw is immensely grateful for her good fortune in the early motherhood department.  because who doesn't want a surrogate 25 year old son?  if it's not that, it's the prospect of double dating and wearing matching ice washed "wing women" shirts.  like this.  me and you, love.  me and you.  if anyone can rock it, it's us.

and jamal.  well, jamal i'd bet is thankful for... jamal.  i'm sure as he reads this he sits up a little bit taller at his computer and puffs his chest out a bit, and says to himself, "that's right, THAT'S RIGHT!  how'd she know?!  man, thanks, mom and dad."  and then he looks around the office expectingly, waiting for a spontaneous burst of applause from coworkers or something to that effect.

in other news, this holiday season i think calls for a 1455 q st kids greeting card.  like... we should each pick one holiday to represent and dress accordingly, each bring a prop to the photo shoot...  someone gets christmas, someone gets hannakuh, someone gets kwanzaa.  maybe we can even borrow the neighbor's baby.  capture us singing caroles 'round the fake fireplaces and pianos?  visions of sugar plums dancing in my head.  i already want to mail it to everyone i know.

this might not be that funny.  maybe there will be a "funny" post later while i'm pretending to work at work.  in the meantime, i feel like this picture is deserving of some recognition, even though the basketball list made absolutely no mention of it.  shame.

10)  Basketball is Fun
9) Basketball Provides Both A Physical and a Mental Workout That Keeps Your Mind Engaged and Body Strong and Agile
8) A Basketball Will Never Judge You, No Matter How Much It Might Resent You for Dribbling It So Hard or Keeping it Under a Pile of Dirty Clothes, or sleeping with it's sister
7) Basketballs Make You Laugh
6) Basketballs Make You Cry (In a Good Way) (unless it bounces up in your face and all the kids that hangout at the basketball court laugh at you and your apparently "white ass")
5) A Basketball Would Never Ask to Borrow $1000 to Clear A Gambling Debt and then Fall off the Face of the Earth for Six-Months and Then You Happen to Run Into It On the Metro On Your Way Home From Work and It Acts All Awkward And Distant and At First Pretends It Doesn't see you and then after you talk briefly it Gets off at a stop you know isn't really the stop it was going to get off at before you happened to bump into him
4) Basketball is the only sport that Is Named After Lina Basquette, the 1930s Film Star
3) Trivia: Did you Know that Lina Basquette had 9 Marriages, including one to Actor/Child Murderer Sam Warner?
2) Lina Basquette, such a pretty name
1) Lina Basquette's grandson, Roger Basquette works in cinema and has been credited on such films as "Spy Kids", "Friday Night Lights", and the recent Cohen Brother's action-packed suspense thriller "No Country for Old Men," for which he was the digital video assist operator.  When asked what inspires him most about working in film, he responded, "Why are you standing so close to me" and "Have we met?"

Here's a poem I wrote last night without even trying:

Yesterday
All my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe
In yesterday

Suddenly
I'm not half the man I used to be
There's a shadow hanging over me
Oh, yesterday
Came suddenly

Why she
Had to go I don't know
She wouldn't say
I said
Something wrong now I long
For yesterday

Yesterday
Love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe
In yesterday

Why she
Had to go I don't know
She wouldn't say
I said
Something wrong now I long
For yesterday

Yesterday
Love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe
In yesterday

(hum to "I believe in yesterday")

almond nut butter
brazil nut butter
cashew nut butter
hazelnut butter
nutella
peanut butter
pecan nut butter
pumpkin seed butter
soy nut butter
sunflower seed butter
tahini butter

and now, let us discuss how to make our own peanut butter.  this will come in handy for oh so many reasons, such as...

1.  all 1455 housemates being poor.
2.  a peanut butter culprit lurks through kitchen cabinets stealing all of jamal's peanut butter.
3.  katie shaw will learn to love peanut butter if we can add chocolate chips to it.
4.  katie hughes already eats peanut butter with everything, and can at least now make a jar with her own face on the label.

so without further ado:

Ingredients

Peanuts
Oil

Use approximately 2 Tablespoons of Oil for every Cup of Peanuts. You can also add 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Peanuts do have a lot of oil already in them. If you use a peanut with a lot of oil, like Spanish peanuts, you do not have to add as much additional oil.

A good blend that requires no additional oil is 1 Cup of Spanish peanuts and 1 Cup of Virginia Peanuts.

Procedure

To make the peanut butter, all you have to do is put your peanuts and oil in the blender and whip them together.

If you want your peanut butter chunky, remove about 1/4 Cup of the peanuts before your begin blending the peanuts and oil. When the mixture is almost blended, add the nuts. Puree it a few more times, to break up the nuts and finish the blending.

Here is your chance to be creative! The above recipe is very plain. If you are going to the effort of doing it yourself, make it special. Use some delicious macadamia nuts for the chunks, or add some honey for the oil.

You can also add pecans, sunflower seeds, and other nuts, some honey for the oil, or even some chocolate or butterscotch chips.
